Darkrai deals: the Distortion Room
Darkrai sells very strong items for health: 1 or 2 heart containers, or 3 soul hearts. It won't let you pay if you'd be left with no health. It is PokéIsaac's devil deal.

Once per run, with a 10 % chance, Darkrai offers no deals: it attacks you. Once defeated, it drops a Charcoal. The fight is listed with the bosses.
How to get the Distortion Room
Beat the boss without taking damage. The base chance is only 5 %, a clean boss fight adds 35 %, and a whole floor without a hit makes the violet rift almost certain. Carrying a deal item adds 20 %. If you took a deal recently it shows up less often.
Price: 23 deals cost 1 heart container and 5 cost 2. On a 1-container deal Darkrai asks for 3 soul hearts instead 30 % of the time (never on items that give soul hearts). He won't sell you a deal that would leave you with no health.
